Jersey Boys Tour

Daniel Scott, a cast member from the musical Jersey Boys, spoke out recently about his ongoing fear of the street violence in Melbourne after he was assaulted in a fast food outlet. He plays Bob Crewe, songwriter/producer in the musical. He stated that he no longer goes out at night and drives to work, even though it’s only five blocks away, after he was assaulted last month on Bourke Street at Hungry Jack’s.

Scott received a black eye as well as a haematoma on his lower back, which is about the size of a grapefruit. The assault took place two nights before the opening night for Jersey Boys. While he did manage to perform in the show’s opening night performance, he was forced to withdraw for a week and says that a month later he is still trying to recover from his injuries. Scott says he has stopped going out and hasn’t been doing much socializing. He added that it has affected his head space and that he was hoping that it would all pass with time.

He said he had traveled all over the world and that every city has both good as well as bad points, but that in Melbourne, unfortunately, a brand of street violence seemed to be a trend.

Before stopping at Hungry Jack’s on July 3 at about 3:50 a.m., Soctt had been doing some celebrating with some friends.

In CCTV footage that the police released, Scott is seen entering the fast food restaurant. He got into a verbal altercation that involved line cutting. The police said that the verbal altercation then escalated into blows, but after a short scuffle the man left. A friend of the man’s then came in and head butted Scott and then returned again after a short time and attacked him again. The police has released footage from the scene in an attempt to identify two men who are wanted for questioning regarding the attack.

Steven Hemingway, the Leading Senior Constable, described the attack as reprehensible and callous. He also stated that one of the men was allegedly overheard talking before the incident about getting into some type of assault. It was something that didn’t need to happen, he added, and that it was just the mentality of certain individuals that made them want to get into an assault.

The first man has been described as being 18-19 years old and Caucasian, approximately 177 centimeters in height, with a slim to medium build and brown hair.

The second man is in his early 20s, Caucasian, approximately 188 centimeters in height, with a medium build and blond hair.

Anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who has further information can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
