Ryan Jesse Takes Over Bob Gaudio on Broadway’s Jersey Boys

Posted by Jacob Messner On September - 14 - 2010

As the award winning musical “Jersey Boys” continues its run in the Great White Way, actor Sebastian Arcelus exits the musical for another musical, “Elf”, and leaves the role of Bob Gaudio to Broadway newbie Ryan Jesse. Arcelus takes his final bow in the musical’s Broadway run on October 10, while Jesse steps in on the 12th.

Jesse is no stranger to the story of “Jesse Boys”, the story of four menial workers who with their musical ingenuity became the pop sensations of the ‘60s, the Four Seasons. The actor has participated in the national tour of the musical before landing the role that would pave the way for his Broadway debut. His other credits include “Cinderella” where he joined the international tour and worked alongside critically acclaimed stage actress Lea Salonga.

As the critically acclaimed musical “Jersey Boys” celebrates its 1000th show at the Palazzo in Las Vegas, the cast will commemorate the musical’s outstanding feat by giving back to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas through the Walk Like a Man Shoe Drive happening on August 28, Saturday.

Fans of the musical who would like to participate in the shoe drive should come to the Palazzo from 12 noon to 5 PM with a brand new pair of shoes to be donated to the drive in exchange for a complimentary ticket to the 6:30 PM show of the musical on August 28.

Only 1,000 tickets will be up for grabs in the drive and each donor can donate a maximum of 2 pairs of shoes to avail a maximum of 2 complimentary tickets for the show. After the 6:30 PM performance, the “Jersey Boys” cast, made up of Deven May, Jeff Leibow, Peter Saide, Travis Cloer and Rick Faugno, will personally hand over the shoes to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas which has eight facilities in the city catering to about 13,000 less privileged individuals aged 5 to 18.

Lawsuits Rain Down on Original Jersey Boys Cast

Posted by Jacob Messner On July - 14 - 2010

When Broadway stars Christian Hoff, Daniel Reichard, Michael Longoria and J. Robert Spencer decided to go on a concert tour following the Broadway success of “Jersey Boys”, which depicts the story of real life band Four Seasons, the creative team of the said musical headed by playwrights Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman along with Four Seasons’ Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio decided that such a move deserves a lawsuit.

Brickman and the rest of the musical’s execs, along with Four Seasons members and show producer Dodger Theatricals filed the lawsuit in March to prohibit Hoff and company to go through the “Boys in Concert” tour. According the complaint, the said tour tends to confuse audiences thinking that the tour is connected to the Broadway musical since the quartet, who previously portrayed the four lead characters in the original production of the musical, were performing hit songs from the ‘60s to ‘70s, some of which were also performed in the musical, along with a few tracks as popularized by the Four Seasons.

Last week, it was the former “Jersey Boys” leads who took the case to court by filing a counter affidavit citing the opposing camp’s actions as “motivated by petty vindictiveness and malice” as they tried to legally prohibit the four singers to perform any song that is connected or in reference to the musical or to cite any references from the musical of which they starred in for so many years, by “using bully tactics better suited for the schoolyard”.

Jersey Boys Closes Down Toronto Production in August

The Tony Award winning musical “Jersey Boys” will be celebrating its second year at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on August 22 by saying adieu to their millions of fans for the past couple of years that made the musical the longest running theatrical production in the said venue.

After its limited-run debut in Toronto on August 21, 2008, it didn’t take long before “Jersey Boys” was given a two-year extension after earning positive reviews on its opening performance and achieving a sold-out status for each show.

As the production wraps up on the 22nd, Aubrey Dan of Dancap Productions, who brought the musical to Toronto, is grateful to those who “embraced Jersey Boys from the start”, their co-producers from New York, Dodger Theatricals, and everyone who made the musical a success – from the entire cast, to the staff and crew, and most especially, the Toronto Centre for the Arts which graciously welcomed the show and housed it for two years.
